January Wine Club

Happy New Year, HWG Wine Clubbers!

This month, we chose to explore ranges of Alcohol by Volume (ABV) levels to explain why a wine is perhaps higher or lower in ABV. Mindful of Dry January trends, we included two lower ABV wines in the More the Merrier bundle, whereas both bundles have a high ABV wine and a moderate ABV wine. Low ABV wines have <11% ABV. Moderate ABV falls between 11-13%, and high ABV wines are 13.5% and above.

The full-bodied Syrah, at 13.6% ABV, is an excellent option for wintery evenings and hearty, non-spicy dishes. It will also pair well with January 20th, whether you are feeling despair or elation. The Sparkling red blend is an excellent moderate option with thick, unctuous dishes. Both wines may be consumed over a period of 2 days if you don't want to drink them in one afternoon or evening. And the wines lower in alcohol are excellent for a dry January cheat day, or a treat to give yourself after a dedicated, grueling gym workout.

If you are interested in drinking low ABV wines during January, we have a selection of cool climate wines that had a shorter or cooler ripening season (eg, Rieslings) in which less sugar content developed to produce high alcohol content.

What is in the bundles?
• Included in both the Perfect Pair and the More the Merrier: Red Car Sonoma Coast Syrah, 2019; Podere Sotto Il Nocce Saldalama Sparkling Red Blend.

• Exclusive to the More the Merrier is Mor Maj Trebbiano Colline Pescaresi Anfora 2021; Osmote Winery Cayuga Pet-Nat.
