Tasting Profile

Cherry red colored. The claret style meets the nose first, featuring Merlot fruit aromas (redberries) and notes of liquorice. In the mouth the combination of fruitiness, the very light structure and the roundness brings this wine to the typical pleasant well done clairet.

Food Pairing

Salads, hummus platter, roast lamb, venison, duck breast, Beef Bourguignon, entrecôte over shallots, mushroom lasagna, hard and soft cheese (not pungent), eggplant stuffed with bulgar wheat and herbs (not spicy).

Background

A winery run by sister power!

From their website:

When his second daughter was born in 1978, Francis Courselle was far from guessing how it would all turn out…

Before passing over the family business to his daughters, Francis Courselle instilled in them his passion for vineyards and wine.Marie and Sylvie Courselle both graduated as Agricultural Engineers and Å’nologue.

They further enriched their expérience by working at various wineries around the world : Australia, California, Italy, Spain and throughout France in Languedoc, Burgundy and Chateauneuf du Pape.At Château Thieuley, they have divided the tasks between them.

Marie is in charge of the technical  aspect of the wine making whereas Sylvie runs the commercial side. Together, this charming duo is dedicated to continuing the tradition of quality at Château Thieuley.

A 100% family-owned vineyard, the « Vignobles Courselle » started in 1950, when André Courselle bought Château Thieuley located in the famous France Bordeaux Region and lay the foundation of a great vineyard.

In 1972, his son Francis Courselle, a young engineer and oenology professor, took over hte management of Thieuley vineyards. In 30 years, the acreage increased from 4 to 80 hectares spread over three properties : Château Thieuley, Clos Sainte Anne and Château Saint Genes.

Marie and Sylvie Courselle, Francis Courselle’s two daughters, inherited from the family passion. Today, they took over the business and the destiny of Thieuley.
